Collecting Pl4ces

We are proud to announce our ground-breaking project “Collecting Pl4ces“. It celebrates landmarks of cultural heritage in Rushmoor, by showcasing space-specific works written and recorded from the acoustic mapping of locations that build a catalogue of the sociocultural history of the borough. The project was inspired by a 1960 Ordnance Survey map that highlighted huge change over time. Rushmoor, like many communities within the UK, has lost most of its once thriving sociocultural scene to commercial development. Collecting Pl4ces acts as a catalogue of audio photographs; our shared past, present and future.

Collecting Pl4ces signposts places of local significance by gathering impulse responses using a short transient sound at each location. These transient recordings together with a freely available convolution reverb plugin will allow professional and aspiring local musicians, to incorporate the acoustic identity of a site into their own creations.

We are making the impulse responses available to anyone worldwide who would like to use them to explore their own musical identity within the virtual space of our local places.

There will also be live performances from selected local artists in each space to celebrate the unique atmospheres of these “audio photographs” of our local heritage.

Finally a compilation release of all of the artists involved, local and worldwide will be made available.
