Its Not About Me Is It? – Vol. 1

A few months back, quite a few months back, I thought it’d be a grand idea to put everything that was happening down f4Wt road in one nice slice of friendly fanzine based info, all alongside what we’ve been hearing and what we’ve been up to. Then I got distracted by something shiny.

So with my finger on the pulse of 6 months ago (a nod to JBMTS there), here it is. I’ll try to make this a monthly happening. I will I will I will I will…

In case you either: a) have been living away from every communication device (although I’m sure Pete even sent up smoke signals about this) or b) deliberately ignored everything regarding it…Pete Cole put on a gig. I know! Who knew? Kept that one under the radar… Deadcuts (ex-Senseless Things) and the very wonderful f4Wt supergroup; I Plead Irony took to the step in Farnborough Football Club’s bar, all to raise a few quid for the trust. We hope everyone who popped along enjoyed themselves as much as the beer goggles made it seem they did, and even the elusive Chris Jones put in an appearance. The whole thing raised a grand total of £500 for the trust, which is bl**dy excellent. Our heartfelt thanks go to Pete and Andy Fulterer for their kind generosity and hard work. The money will be used towards projects throughout 2016. Marvellous.

Secret Black Boyfriend Last weekend, those dirty noisemongers Secret Black Boyfriend released their new album ‘This Is What Happens When Everyone Wins A Trophy’. f4Wt proudly gave SBB a small helping hand towards the release on gorgeous white vinyl (this made me very excited). They recorded it in 9 hours straight back in September, mixed and mastered it all themselves and finally, FINALLY, here it is. Its f**king great. If you’re a fan of Shellac (they’re playing at Koko in May if you fancy joining me), Fugazi or anything just a bit shouty, you’ll love SBB. Just don’t play this one near the kids. You can grab a copy of the album here and you can also get it on those digital things if you don’t have a turntable.
Heathen.

wasting timeFleet-based Maybe Not Today went into the studio (well, The Rooms) with f4Wt trustee, and technical wizard, Rauf to record their second single ‘Wasting Time’. MNT joined us for our 4 Those About to Rock workshops a couple of years back and with a little mentoring and a lot of work on their part are really getting on in the local scene despite their tender age. They’ve (almost, not quite; thanks) got 20 years on me, I’m impressed… Wasting Time is over on iTunes now for your aural pleasure.

It’s been 2 long years since I Plead Irony’s debut ‘[This Statement Is False]’. A lot of writing, demoing, tweaking and whisky drinking has gone on since, but rest assured test pressings have arrived and that ‘difficult’ album two ‘[The Solution Is The Problem]’ is due for release through Rose Coloured Records on April Fool’s day. No joke. Apparently.

Soon after playing the Westy as support to f4Wt long-time friends Freeze the Atlantic, Parachute for Gordo hit the studio (well, The Rooms really, again) over the Xmas period to demo some tunes. We are promised a new album for 2016. Can. Not. Wait. And speaking of Freeze the Atlantic, they’ve just been confirmed on the massive bill that is Camden Rocks Festival on 4th June…

What we’ve been listening to… Gerry has been enjoying Vibracore’s new album. I haven’t heard it and I think he might have an advance copy there (the pluses of being a rock legend I suppose).
Vibracore gig their voodoo-blues everywhere all the time, so check them out over a few beers.
Lawrence has been enjoying ’68 (they’re bl**dy loud). Rauf has been enjoying Wilt All Rosy by Sayde Price. It’s on Bandcamp. We love Bandcamp. Karina has been enjoying If These Trees Could Talk and Talons due to a few noisy flights, and now ’68 when it’s quiet.

Let us know what you’ve been listening to. This is a sound cooperative. We need your
recommendations!

Whats coming up…SBB curating another gig at the Star in Guildford, 18th March, alongside Grenades and New Cowboy Builders… The wonderful West End Centre announcing more headliners and general awesomeness for this year’s Westival in June… Karina checking out some bands in Bulgaria…

Until next month, love & chips,

Team Wiz x

"I really enjoyed my experience with Spaces4sound, it increased my confidence loads with moving forward in recording and performing. I can't wait to do more, and would encourage anyone to get envolved."
